Travel Through the Photographer’s Gaze — ‘Alexvi: Three Distances’

Immerse yourself in the curated perspective of world-renowned artist Alexvi Li at K11 MUSEA! Showcased in Hong Kong for the first time, Alexvi: Three Distances consolidates the photographer’s many years of art practice, exploring the poignant connections between the photographer, the subject, and the viewer across two spaces in K11 MUSEA.

Explore the Trio: Back to Black, Peking Apartments, Lonely Planet

Presenting three of the artist’s series, the showcase depicts forms of distance: Back to Black features close-up portraits of famous faces; Peking Apartment gives an alternative look at fashion icons in their private spaces; and Lonely Planet offers a furtive view of bystanders and their relationship with their screens.

Since 2009, the artist has captured portraits of more than 150 well-known Chinese actors and singers in a unified, black-and-white format. The resulting Back to Black series is a stunning record of 12 years of Chinese cinema, displayed in a dimmed space to emphasise the blurred distinction between icons and idols in the age of consumerism.

K11 Konversations: Finding Beauty in the Broken & Lost

How do you make art from broken things?

Shards of broken metal, crumbling moulds, and deformed pottery are easily seen as failed works or forgotten vestiges of the past. Yet in the eyes of artist duo Julie & Jesse, the thousands of years of failures and mistakes in porcelain craft serve as an artistic point of departure — a treasure trove of inspiration that drives their creation. Drawing on the rich yet fragmented history of Chinese porcelain, Julie & Jesse’s experimental ceramics explore the relationships between human and object, and nature and industry, against the changing landscape of art.

In this Zoom K11 Konversation, we speak with Julie Progin and Jesse Mc Lin, founders of Julie & Jesse, on their approach to art, the act of preserving history and culture through continued creation, and the importance of play in inspiring the next generation of artists.

Enrol in this K11 Konversation now to discover a whole world of beauty from the broken and lost!

Guests:
Julie Progin & Jesse Mc Lin, Co-founders of Julie & Jesse and Latitude 22N

Established in Hong Kong and Jingdezhen, Julie & Jesse is the creative partnership of Hong Kong-born Swiss designer Julie Progin and American artist Jesse Mc Lin. Embracing the culture and history behind each project, the duo’s practice stretches across the fields of design, craft, and art, blending research and material experimentation into the making of innovative porcelain objects and installations. Julie & Jesse’s works have been shown at institutions such as M+ Museum, Design Society, the Triennale Di Milano & Chicago Design Museum, and K11 Art Foundation.

Discover the History of Men’s Jewellery at “Men’s Rings: Yves Gastou Collection”

Following a successful debut in Paris and Tokyo, the “Men’s Rings, Yves Gastou Collection” Exhibition has arrived at L’ECOLE Asia Pacific in K11 MUSEA, bringing more than 300 rare and exotic men’s rings to the city for the very first time.
