Welcome to Hong Kong’s first-ever illusion cake showcase, where you can experience the sweet surprise of hyper realistic cakes designed to appear as ordinary objects. Each creation by Dear Harley Bakery blurs the line between food and art, challenging visitors to question reality — can you find all the cakes hidden in plain sight?

Let’s feast! But wait… Take a look around the room. Could these ordinary everyday objects be… cake? Your challenge: Find the 13 illusion cakes on our 6-metre-long dining table themed to an “after party” feast!

Cake Illusions Experience 2: Vote The Cake
Let's Play: Guess which object is the real Dear Harley cake! Visitors can cast their vote on-site for which artwork they think might be cake. Catch the big reveal on our Instagram (@K11MUSEA) — we’ll slice the “cake” that gets the most votes!

Cake Illusions Experience 3: Cut The Cake
Join us for some weekend cake cutting fun with Dear Harley founder and cake artist, Alison Chan. One lucky guest per session will be invited to cut open and reveal the inside of an illusion cake for the ultimate moment of truth — don't miss out!

World-renowned artist Alexvi Li arrives at this year’s Art Karnival with a curated retrospective. Showcasing in Hong Kong for the first time, Alexvi: Three Distances consolidates the photographer’s many years of art practice, exploring the poignant connection between photographer, subject, and the viewer across two spaces in K11 MUSEA.

Explore the Trio: Back to Black, Peking Apartments, Lonely Planet
See the world through the lens of Alexvi Li viewed across two locations of K11 MUSEA: G06, G/F, and B2, Garage. Presenting a curation of three of the artist’s series, the showcase depicts a form of distance: Back to Black features close-up portraits of famous faces; Peking Apartment gives an alternative look at fashion icons in their private spaces; and Lonely Planet presents a furtive view of bystanders and their relationship with their screens.

Since 2009, the artist has captured portraits of more than 150 well-known Chinese actors and singers in a unified, black-and-white format. The resulting Back to Black series is a stunning record of 12 years of Chinese cinema displayed in a dimmed space to emphasise the blurred distinction between icons and idols of the consumer era. Continuing on from the Ground Floor showcase, visitors can head to B2, Garage for a closer look at Alexvi Li’s work in the form of 3 short films.

Back to Black Interactive Installation
In the darkroom surroundings of B2, Garage, visitors can get a unique chance to interact with the artist’s Back to Black series with a Polaroid photo booth set-up! Explore the moody depths of iconic portraiture and get your own likeness taken in the same signature style, and scan the QR code to take it home as a souvenir!

To digital native and Beijing-born, London-based artist Vivien Zhang, her paintings are a reflection of her multicultural background influenced by the digital and the virtual. The intricate layers and compositions of her paintings create titillating illusions, inviting us to get up close and reminding us of the importance of seeing art with our own eyes.

Artist Chris Huen, by contrast, once dreamt of being a comic artist — his paintings now capturing his spontaneous response of observing the world around him. Huen believes the art of painting creates a space for dialogue between history and our environment, a subject matter often depicted in his intimate paintings of his family and his immediate surroundings.

In this episode of K11 Konversations, the two London-based artists take us through their art, discuss the shortcomings of technology at a time of rapid digital transformation in studio practice, and the irreplaceable tactility of paint.
